Her debut song Here was released in 2015. The single garnered a lot of praise and was well-received by both listeners and critics. It reached the top 19 of both the Billboard Hot 100 in Canada and on the Canadian Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone ranked the track as one of the year's Best Songs. The singer released her debut Know It All album in the same year. The third track, Scars to Your Beautiful was among five tracks that made it to the top charts on Billboard as well as the Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100. Based on an interview she did with Rap Up, the track had lots of meaning for many people who listened to her personal story of accepting and loving yourself. Cara is known for incorporating messages about the importance of mental health, kindness and love of self in her songs. Her inspiration for her music comes from Cara's personal struggle to overcome mental health problems and insomnia. According to a Reuters interview, she's described her album as half-tumultuous however, it is half finished. She claims she has grown by therapy and is adamant about encouraging other people to get help when necessary. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on July 11th, 1996. Alessia Cara's parents bought her their first guitar when she was 10. This was her beginning with music. 2013 was the year she recorded the songs she loved for YouTube the most popular media platform. This was to demonstrate that she had the capability and the self-confidence to be an artist. A cover of one of her songs, Sweater Weather, was what got her noticed. EP Entertainment gave her the chance to write and compose her own music.
